How Often Should You Clean a Fence?

Home » Archives for multiman » Page 8

Annual fence maintenance helps to expand the lifespan of any fencing material. For proper maintenance, it all depends on the type of fence you own. A wood fence needs staining every 2-3 years to preserve the natural look of the wood, and the overall function of the fence. Here are some tips to help you understand how to clean a fence, and how often you should clean your fence.

Wood Fence Cleaning

A wood fence is vulnerable to the sun because it does not have exterior shell protection. Most wood fences are treated with exterior spray before being sold, but the initial treatments usually wear out within a few months to a year of owning the fence. Fortunately, a pressure washer can help to remove the sun damage that can occur before the fence can be treated with correct UV polymer.

Start cleaning a wood fence by spraying it in sections and using a gentle scrub brush with soap to remove dirt and other things that may be embedded in the wood. After the fence is cleaned, wait for it to dry for at least 48 hours prior to painting or staining the wood fence.

MultiMan Services does provide professional fence cleaning for wood fencing, and we have the right equipment, training, and tools to do the job correctly.

Vinyl Fence Cleaning

Pressure washing a vinyl fence is a convenient way to keep your white fence looking clean all year long. Vinyl fencing is popular with many homeowners because it is extremely weather-resistant as it cannot rot and crack. However, a vinyl fence does have one frustration; it is pure white, so it will show dirt stains, grass stains, and water stains fairly quickly.

Clean a vinyl fence with a power washer and correct cleaning solutions to remove the buildup of dirt and water stains. Failure to use the right cleaning solution could cause damage to the integrity of the fence and the surrounding landscaping.

Proper fence cleaning will improve a fence by removing harmful contaminants such as bird feces and mold. MultiMan Services provides safe and affordable fence cleaning to restore your fence!

In the middle of the summer, we rarely think about deck preparation for the upcoming winter. Food spills, animals, foot traffic, and weather all take their toll on a deck. To keep your deck in the best condition, and ensure its ready for the cold winter months, follow our simple guide to get started.

Check for Signs of Board Damage

A deck needs to maintain a sturdy condition to work properly. Board damage is relatively easy to spot as looks deteriorated, but also is unsafe to walk upon. In some instances, the board could be cracked entirely or could fall through. As you examine the entire deck surface, be mindful of the weathered or warped board. When a board is cracked, it needs to be replaced.

Joist Rot Under a Deck

Assess the strength of your deck by looking for joist rot. When you see warped board, a sagging deck, or rot underneath, it is time to consider new joists. Moisture will build up around screws and nails that hold the joist together, and the sun doesn’t reach this area to dry it properly. Termites and carpenter ants are another major issue for decks as they will eat away at the joists.

Peeling Deck Stain or Paint

Another indication the deck needs some TLC is by taking a look at the paint or stain. If there is peeling deck stain or paint, it shows the deck needs to be cleaned and repainted or restained. In some situations, a simple cleaning is all the deck needs to look new again. Beautiful wood is often hidden underneath dirt and weather aging that causes it to look grey and old.

Re-stain deck preparation will require sanding or scraping off the old paint or stain. A new coat won’t look smooth if the deck is not properly prepared prior to staining. It is vital to use stain or paint that is designed for outdoor use.

Dryvit Building Washing

Dryvit is a unique material used to construct several homes and buildings throughout Wisconsin. Dryvit resembles stucco and it is a delicate mateiral that can be challenging to clean. Pressure-washing could damage the walls, causing serious and expensive repair work to be needed. Our dryvit cleaning specialists will use a mild chemical solution to gently clean the walls and remove the stains.

Stucco Building Washing

Similar to dryvit, stucco is another exterior material used to finish a home or building. Stucco is a beautiful material that does add personality to the building. However, stucco can easily look old and can be an eyesore to your business if it is not cleaned properly. We work hard to remove the tough dirt, mold, and rust found on the exterior of the building.

Stucco can be hard to clean as it is rough and porous and dirt, mold, mildew, and grime all get stuck in these areas. Our experts have the tools, training, and equipment needed to perform the job correctly and safely!
